As it turned out, the wind/tides were too strong for me in the ocean, but Clint braved the elements for us. He's the one in the middle. Clint said this was the most fun he has ever had fishing. One might even refer to him as a dip net fishing addict. He was so excited every time he brought a fish in.
After bringing your salmon in on a net, you beat it with a baton to stun it while you slit its gills.
Everyone wanted to try. Here's Grant.
And Nicole.
Clint had a used pair of waders. It didn't take long to discover they had a small leak. He came in with about five gallons of water in his pant legs. He ended up cutting them off and fishing in his jeans and boots after this.
After the big rush came through, we took the fish back to our campground to filet and package them. George (on the left) is a pro and has been showing us rookies the ropes. Barb (in the middle) also comes every year.
We had a beautiful campground! It was quiet and right on the river. The babies lost their pants, but found a float plane. I'd say that's a great trade!
I can't wait to go back for round 2 next week. Hopefully the water is calmer so I can contribute to our limit of 85 salmon!!
