Grant's Sixth Birthday!

We invited the cousins over for a little celebration.  Grant picked out an Angry Birds cake.

And loved it.

And made a wish (probably for more money or toys).

Our little Arizona group, which has been a much-loved, and short-lived gathering.  What a special time in the lives of these kids to have their cousins near while they were younger.
L to R: Scotty, Ty, Tommy, Sam and Nicole, Susie, Grant.  (Not pictured: Kalia, who at 14 years old, is sometimes too cool for little kid parties. *wink*)

Our "little" family had a present opening ceremony on Grant's actual birthday.

And sometimes dreams come true ...
Legos!  (Picked out by Big Sister who always knows the perfect gift.)

*LOVE* This Girl!

Quincy and I go way back.  Have I told you about the time when my best friend Nickey and I were babysitting an 8-month-old Quince while my parents went to a wedding reception?  Well, Quincy was the cutest and sweetest baby, and we had nothing better to do, so we thought it would be fun.  We were15 years old and more than capable of taking care of an innocent little baby, or so we thought.  I remember that Quincy was a fast crawler, and I thought it was so cute.  I set her down at the beginning of my parents' long hallway to see how fast Quincy could crawl to the other side.  About half-way through, she stopped to throw up.  I think that was my first time ever cleaning up vomit.  My friend and I laughed, even though we instantly decided we were in over our heads.  My parents took an unusually long time getting back because, unbeknownst to us, they had been in a car accident on their way home.  It was a very interesting evening, and one of the first that I remember with Quincy.  I have adored Quincy ever since.

Last weekend, our Arizona family was treated to a spontaneous visit from Quincy. When I saw Quincy get out of the driver's seat of my sister's car in her black dress and heels, with her gorgeous curls and professional make-up, I couldn't believe my eyes.  I felt like those old people who are always saying, "I remember when you were just a baby," and you think there's no way someone that old could remember that far back.  Quincy just grew up, and I can't even believe it!

But she's still the cutest and the sweetest thing, just like when she was a baby!  What I wouldn't give to "babysit" her again.  Except this time, we'd see how fast we could canvas the mall (instead of a hallway) or fill out college applications, or maybe just sit on the couch and reminisce about old times -- we've had many, and they make me smile every time I think of them. Love and miss this girl every day!

A Growing Baby

I swear she was just born, so how in the world did she get so big?!  The other morning, I heard some baby babble.  I walked into Shari's room and found this:
Not only had she rolled over to her back (which she does regularly now), but she had started undressing. She was so proud of her self.

Then today, the kids thought Shari wanted a sucker (blue, of all colors).  I guess they were right.
Those chubby fingers were not letting go!

Quote of the Day

"What must be done is best done cheerfully," says Pa from On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

My mom has never said explicitly, but I think this is her life motto.  Thanks for the real-life example, Mom!

Scotty is Four ... Finally!

Aunt Sarah's gang showed up for an impromptu birthday party for Scott.   We lucked out that Scotty's bday was on Monday, and that Clint's work was celebrating New Year's.  So Clint was able to join us for a mid-day party at Peter Piper Pizza (Scotty's choice).

Scotty is still crazy-obsessed with trains, so he thought this Thomas the Train cake was "AWESOME!"  When Scotty grows up, he wants to be a train engineer, a garbage man, a pilot, an astronaut, a firefighter, or anyone else who controls machines with big engines.  I wonder what his birthday wish was ...
