Overheard during Legos ...

Don't grow up.  Don't grow up.  Don't grow up!

A couple of nights ago, Clint and I were in the middle of bedtime routine.  Nicole takes care of herself, Shari was already asleep, Grant was whining about brushing his teeth, and Scotty was hanging upside down from the bunk bed laughing defiantly.  Clint asked me if I thought we'd miss all of this one day.  I said, "Yes, when they're all teenagers and we don't know where they are, and we don't know when they're coming home, and we don't like who they're with, we'll remember how good we had it when our biggest problem was getting them to brush their teeth and put their jammies on the first time we asked."

Scotty and Grant play together so much better than they used to -- now that Scotty likes to play more than destroy.  Right now they're both on the living room floor surrounded by thousands (no exaggeration) of Legos and playing pretend.  I overhead the following conversation and thought to myself, "Don't grow up.  Just keep on playing Legos forever."
Scotty: Where's my mommy and daddy?
Grant: Your mommy and daddy are dead.
Scotty (in a sad tone): Ohh ...
Grant: But you have me, and I'm a wizard.
Scotty: Oh, hi Wizard.  I like you better.
